Current trends in Higher Education

For higher education institutions, employment statistics and the rankings that they influence have become a central issue as they compete in the global arena to attract top students, a competition that is becoming fiercer as changes in public policies lead to increased fees in many countries. Growing numbers of students are crossing borders to pursue a degree, hoping to improve their job prospects following graduation. In Europe, this trend is supported by both by the region-wide transition to a more transparent model for university education guided by the Bologna Process and by the move to English as the language of instruction for many degrees, particularly at master’s level.
